Discuss the songs, cover art, inside booklet, etc of the Manic Street Preachers' first album, "Generation Terrorists".

Seems like a lot of Manics fans sort of hate this album! Shame really, I'd consider it my 2nd or 3rd favorite (THB being #1, and JFPL being dangerously close to surpassing this one here!). I think the end is kind of tacked with filler a bit, and there's the small matter of James playing ALL the guitar / bass work here - more credit to him, there's some fantastic stuff going on guitar-wise here! The production is a bit crap, I can barely even hear bass happening. What I love about GT is how very *Manics* it seems, if that makes sense...and besides I loved the way they looked during this time, /fangirl! When I saw the Manics in SF, everyone went especially crazy when they did "You Love Us", of all the songs they performed! Something really endearing about some stuff, "Motorcycle Emptiness", "Love's Sweet Exile" (people slag that one off all the time - I loved it before I saw the video, honest! ), "Stay Beautiful", etc., etc. ;D

"Love's Sweet Exile" (people slag that one off all the time - I loved it before I saw the video, honest! ) Hahaha! ;D I've yet to hear this one in full but I'm very curious. They already had such a distinct look and attitude so early on.

I think the tracklist could have easily been trimmed and the compression on the album makes it sound so flat. Given it was going for of the time rock production anyway, to me (I'm obviously a huge fan of rock/metal in all levels and such) it just feels so redundant. Plus I think I've just seen the guitar tricks (and indeed played some myself) so much prior to this that the impact of any great lick, of which there are many here, just don't make that much of an impact to me.
That and the political lyrics infuriate me (they do not make sense, the use of slash n'burn does NOT have a direct or even indirect link to the purpose of the song for example). That's mainly an issue I have with some fans though, the Manics are one of the most typical middle of the road (aka not left wing) bands of all time given what they apparently stood for.
...but yeah.
Good songs include Slash N Burn, Motorcycle, Condemned to Rock N Roll, Crucifix Kiss...
I think they did a true Appetite for Destruction style album with GATS (my second favourite Manics album) in production style, in tone, in structure...just brilliant.
