Menswe@r were a Britpop band formed in October 1994 from Camden in London. They released a number of singles and an album, Nuisance on London Records. They recorded a second album, which was released in Japan only, and split in 1998. Sources: Last.fm, Wikipedia. Requested by Jasmine

WOO! It's happened. You know when 6Music did the Britpop world cup? I seem to remember someone saying, 'you can have Menswe@r. The North Korea of Britpop.' which was hilarious, but TOTALLY WRONG. Anyone here actually like them? Or am I just on my own, dancing to Daydreamer....

DO IT. In fact, here you go. I reckon they sound quite seventies. Or a pastiche of Britpop. I DON'T CARE I LOVE THEM.

I reckon they sound quite seventies. Or a pastiche of Britpop. Good points. They were a pastiche of 'Britpop', formed on the back of the success of the genre. I think they were guys who were hanging around on the scene, rather than being working musicians who had been writing and gigging profusely before breaking through. They were standard 'Britpop', nothing more, nothing less. The media gave them stick for effectively being 'Britpop's' manufactured band. I did buy the album at the time and it spawned quite a few singles. I understand they particularly felt the pressures of suddenly being thrust into the spotlight. Already ridiculed by the music press, their descent into obscurity was assured even before 'Britpop' genuinely burned out. That said, 'Being Brave' was better than people remember and their other songs weren't necessarily worse than a lot of other "indie by numbers". If you heard some of their songs now free from any misconceptions they might sound OK.
